The region of al-Thulaythuwat is geographically diverse with two clearly differentiated environments. To the north is the characteristic landscape of Hamada limestone plateau, dissected by dense hydrographical network of which wadi Abu Meil and Wadi al-Kareem are the most important seasonal water courses. A steep slope more than 100 m high, which is the eastern extension of the Ras al-Naqb escarpment, marks the beginning of the southern geographical entity represented by a sandy alluvial plain stretching towards Saudi Arabia.
